How do I just bypass the ELD on my 98 Civic?
I'm tired of the dim lights and the slow fuel pump. I want to just get rid of this ELD. Any way to do this without throwing a CEL.

No way using an OBD2 ECU. The ELD is supposed to help the symptoms of dimming lights, voltage variations, etc. You can disable the ELD using an OBD1 ECU but you will also fail emissions, which is just not worth it.

The alternator and belt are fine. The ELD is 100% for sure the problem just like I had originally suspected. If you do a search on Google, people even on the newer Civics have the same problem. The ELD will turn the alternator off/down in low/no load situations. It reduces voltage to between 11.2 and 12 volts. I cleaned all my grounds and that helped a little bit but not very much. Ground on the thermostat housing is tight. ELD's in these cars just don't work as well as they could. As stated in an earlier topic, I guess maybe I'm just way more particular than other people. I notice almost all Hondas doing this and the people driving the cars don't. The ELD is for sure the problem...
Also, do JDM ECU's throw a code when the ELD is not hooked up? I know they don't use a vtec pressure sensor or a crankshaft fluctuation sensor....
