Without changing the cam there isnt really a point in removing or raising the rev limit. I assume you are running some sort of piggyback unit or afc hack to 'tune' your car.
But yes, going to a chipped ecu will allow you to raise your rev limit and also tune it better and more reliably then a piggyback unit or afc.
However since you say your car has a turbo, changing the rev limit could be beneficial, but the only way to really tell is to have it properly tuned and dynoed. If your still making good power without it dropping off by redline, then yes changing the rev limit could gain you some power.
You will also need upgraded valve springs if you do this or you will get valve float and destroy your engine.

wow haha... he talks like he bought the motor like that tho. any person.. ANY person who has built there own turbo setup. no's how to change his redline. and IF in fact its turboed. then you would be running a chipped ecu prolly or w.e. sounds like u need to read sum shyt. take it to a performance shop. and sya. here. do this. mommy and daddy gave me the money. do watever it takes. but. a built bottom end and not a head. is a bad idea IMO. think of it like this. uve got a 300 lbs guy hittin a 150 lbs guy. the 150 guy is gonna wear out and blow. learn about yur motor. before u start throwin a bazillion things on it.

there would really be no point to raise your redline unless you know that you're still going to be making power up that high.

It's easy to get a higher redline, just hit redline and downshift....

hahaha....

um dont do that.

you can raise your red line with a chipped ecu...but with a stock head you arent going to make power at 9000 rpms. my ls vtec barely makes decent power at 9000...so build your head that way you dont break something.

its not all about how high your car can redline if you're not even making power that high...infact all you're going to do is destory your valves and cams or loose power as you're revving that high, thus being slower for a while.

He doesn't have to run an ems if he is turboed. (FMU, only if you like holes in your bottom end) But you are probably right- he's just blowing smoke up your ***. Without a built valvetrain you will not see any useable hp at redline. What is your obsession with a higher rev limit anyways. "If my car sounds like a scalded cat you know its gotta be fast!"

Revving your engine up that high isn't gonna do you any good. With that engine I doubt your gonna be making power after 7500 rpms. And if your evening revving it up that high already, your just killing your motor.

ok, we know you won't make any reasonable power at 9000, but if you were to do it, then you will NEED to install stiffer valve springs, and Ti retainers are a good idea. Otherwise your valves will float and smack the pistons. Thats when things get real fun. If for some reason, your obsessed with 9k, you can have a cam ground so you make power up there, but it wont be optimal. A SOHC isn't a B. It doesn't rev like a B, but it can make more tq then a B. All about RS ratio son.

Itd take some internal Work to get it to rev that high safely.

you'd Need a good Cam, A well balanced Crankshaft, maybe new pistons, rods, and some new valve springs.

Unless your doing it for ***** and giggles, its not really worth it IMO, if you want high revving go DOHC.
