Default how can i engage vtec w/out running my engine?

Hi , im from the Philippines. I would like to ask help from anybody who knows how to lock the vtec rockerarm while the engine is not running. Because I want to know if my valves are heating my pistons when the vtec engages. I have type-r pistons and my head is milled a little. Im going to use type-r cams also. My car is a 1999 honda Si-R.
thanks

Clay test still only tests the clearance for the non-vtec cam lobes, correct? He would still need to engage the solenoid to check the clearance for the vtec lobes...right?

You can engage the solenoid all you want, but without oil pressure it wont push the valve down any farther. The solenoid only allows oil to pressurize the VTEC circuit, so without enough oil pressure you wont get the valve lift from VTEC.

So there is no way to lock the vtec rockers without starting the car. Could you manually push in the locking pins somehow?

To lock the VTEC rocker without oil pressure, you can apply air pressure to the head. There is an inspection hole, you must remove the sealing bolt, and then screw in an air line. You need to plug the relief hole with a special air stopper tool. You use 36 psi of air pressure to activate the VTEC rocker.

I aim to please!

btw....be carefull taking out the sealing plug. I took the one out of the junk head I have, and just breaking the sealing bolt loose I stripped all the threads! Luckily I have another junked head with a good one. I always like having spares around.
