take off the valve cover and look at the build-up if theres a **** load it didnt get the oil changes it needed. See if it comes with a full uncut harness and all the sensors are there and not broken

Best thing to do would be to check the compression, but I am going to assume the motor is out of the car. If you can get your hands on a compression tester you could maybe hit the starter with a battery and check it that way... never done it like that but i dont see why it wouldnt work.

okay a compression tester screws in where you put your spark plugs in, it checks to see if there is any blowby in the rings and everything is sealing properly. Once it is screwed in you crank it over so it compresses air in the cylinders. You do this to each cylinder and you should get number very close to each other otherwise

I dont know what kind of deal you are getting on the motor but I would rather spend the extra money for piece of mind from someone with a rep that doesnt sell bad motors or if you get a bad motor will make it right. I have gotten my motors from Hmotors online and so have most of my buddies and they have always done us right.. Just something to think about.. When you buy from a private seller you always take the risk of getting a shitty motor.
