Honda Civic A/C Question

One more airconditioning question, I'm not completely sure how to word this: Is the low pressure switch work on a ground circut? And will that disconnect the a/c compressor clutch? My father in law is working on his 93 Honda Civic DX. Right now, he had tried jumping the pressure switch and he says it didnt really completly work.
