Hole in my sub-frame

Re: Hole in my sub-frame
yeh, you can make a patch panel for it, and what I would do is clean out all the rust with a 50 grit grinding disc clean all the edges, and make sure that you have clean metal either to weld to or use a panel bonding agent such as 8115 from 3m (which is just as strong as a weld) and cut out a pieces of metal using a cut off wheel tin snips and then glue it in to place and hold it down by either screwing it down to keep it tight placing something on top to make sure the glue holds. Wait 24 hours to let the glue cure completely and grind out the glue, put a coat of plastic over it sand it and re spray it, that should do the trick, good luck

WOW!
holy shitty crash repair batman!
and yeah, you can fix it. break out the die grinder, torch, mig and order some more sheet steel.. or if you are into just drilling welds, the pieces are probably still available from honda. but i'd plan on it getting crazy.. that shock tower even in the right place?
but is it even worth it? if you can't do the work yourself.. it's probably not.

Very, and h3ll no!
That is a hardcore DIY. The only way I could see anyone I know even touching that would be for a complete tear down and build scenario. Unless the rest of the car is completely sound and mint, I'm thinking not worth it because it looks like there's more wrong than just the rust damage.

If that were my car I would part it out and chop it up. It could be good for a race shell when you chop the front end off lol.
How the hell did it get like that? Rust over time or did a battery explode?

Re: Hole in my sub-frame
I've seen this a few times before. Its been smashed in the front and very poorly fixed, even in areas with heavy salt those shock towers never rust through (I know i'm in just about the worst spot for salt) That car is done unless you want to spend major time and/or money on it. Seeing as its an automatic purple EX coupe it just doesn't seem worth the time or money. I'd part it out or get another shell and transfer the EX stuff over.

shitty welding and bad body work. its not really worth fixing at this point.....unless the rest of the car is in mint shape, then it would be worth finding a parts car and having it done right. after about 3000 dollars in labor your 2000 dollar car will be perfect!!!
adam jeffery
scrap it and part it out. or find a dx/cx/vx and transfer all of your ex stuff over to it. or find a mint si hatch and part the old one out.

Re: Hole in my sub-frame
hard to tell from the pic but it looks like the hood doesnt line up well with the bumper on the passenger side. is that the same side as the damage/rust hole? id say its a good bet that your car had some front end damage. car looks clean otherwise.
if it were me.....
id remove the engine, go to junk yard and cut a large section out that is needed. go to a body shop and have it put on the frame alignment jig.
make sure every thing is all good and have them weld in the replacement piece you cut from the yard. at that point you can have them finish it or spray bomb the bay flat black or something.
if you have the ability and resources id say go for it.

You'll be into the thousands. That's a seriously major job. If you really want to fix it cut a much larger section out of another 5th gen civic and weld it in with a mig welder + gas. Make sure you cut out all the old rusted metal and slag first.

Re: Hole in my sub-frame
plasma cut it out or with a cutting wheel...and wire wheel all the rust thats left.. then look for an inner fender apron to weld back in...not to hard if youve got some good hands on skills

Re: Hole in my sub-frame
If the shock tower looks like that.. I'm sure the quarters are full of bondo from the purple to red repaint... maybe just sell it to someone and show them the repair.. its worth money as a car (I wouldn't part it) but man that's bad.. I wouldnt pour too much money and time into that chassis.

Maybe, maybe not, even in heavily salted areas the only times i've ever seen shock towers rust like that were due to a poorly fixed front end collision.

Re: Hole in my sub-frame
That's not your subframe, racing guys chop that part out. You need to cut back to solid metal, clean it all up and weld in new steel. This is assuming you don't have more serious issues with rust.
