I think you're saying that you put your timing off one tooth... my suggestion would be to set it correctly...
My SOHC was set off one tooth from the dealer and it ran like POO compared to how it ran after I redid the timing belt.
As far as shaving the head that just raises compression a bit. That by itself without any changes will add power... but once you start messing with the cam timing you're putting a whole other influence on the results...
Also keep in mind one tooth on the stock gear is almost 5degrees I believe... in which case it's not likely it will do you ANY good in either direction. Even the adjustable gears for a SOHC are kinda silly IMO... the CAM is designed to be timed to 0 because if you advance one you advance it both intake and exhaust are advanced and if you retard it you retard both, where as in most cases with a DOHC people generally find that the only way to tune more power in is to adjust the intake and exhaust timing seperately.
The only way to modify the intake exhaust timing reliably on a SOHC is through different cams (with different intake/exhaust timing relationships) and lots of testing. Which is where honda comes in... they did design the the z6 as a performance motor... I'm sure they tested plenty of cam designes before settling on the final product.

i cant set it top dead center because it wont crank cause i have a shaved head already tryed it to so i have gotten it running now but when i am driving it leans out at high rpms was wondering what should i do first get a v-afc to re-map the fuel or get msd ingnition set up for a hotter spark sence the civic has a coil in the dizzy and is not strong enuff for more fuel and air

it was milled 20 and i took it to the the guy in our town that tunes cars he says it is the timming so im sorry guys for not beliving you he said that retarding it one tooth is too much with 20 milled off so i have to buy a adjustible cam gear and move it just a little

Re: (cashshoes)
I'm just not clear on why you didn't set the timing correct to begin with?
Your problem is def. your cam timing. Just set it to stock and it should run just fine.
Really no need for an adjustable cam gear on a SOHC imo. Unless you've got a dyno to test the differences I don't think you'll get any gain from adjusting it randomly.
