HELP: will aftermarket cat-back exhaust for 96-00 hatch fit b-series swap without cat?
i got this from an article in Hybrid Honda:
1. Running a straight pipe is illegal. But if you are going for a track event, pick up a DX after market cat-back exhaust for your EK hatch back. Connect it to any GSR header and it will bolt right up without the cat.
http://tech.hybridgarage.com/t....html
Can someone confirm this? i know definitely the 94-99 gsr headers are too short to reach the piping, only 94up LS/type r and 00-01 gsr will reach..
So i got a B20 on my 98 hatch. I want to run straight piping for awhile. If i pick up a 96-00 Civic hatch Apexi cat-back exhaust, it should bolt right up to my type dc header without the cat?
That is will the flanges on the header and piping of a DX piping be in alignment? Will the bolt holes match up?
TIA

I'm sure it will work. On my 99 dx hatch if I take my oem exhaust manifold off and put any aftermarket d-series header on it it connects directly to the b-pipe and eliminates the cat because it is on the exhaust manifold.

I've seen that done before...aftermarket d-series header will bolt up but how about b-series header. in this case, a GSR header...
Do you remember if the d-series header flange (collector end) is tilted or parallel to the ground? In other words, are both bolts/springs that connect the header to the exhaust piping horizontal to the ground or diagonally (slightly tilted) to the ground?

Im pretty sure that a usdm gsr header is not the same length as a jdm gsr header.I believe that the jdm one is longer. And my friends 96 dx, we put A jdm gsr in it and the apexi catback was perfect to the header, but the boltholes are not the same, they were spaced farther apart on the header than the catback, so he had to weld a different flange to the exhaust.

I also have a usdm dc type r header which is long enough to reach the piping of the apexi exhaust
the question is would the flanges on either one will line up?

GSR header should line up alright, it's the LS header that is wacked out. The Civic flange is tilted, I think pretty much all of them are but the LS I think is tilted the opposite way. Anyhow the DC sounds like a good choice, but even if it lines up the piping might be different size, you may have to fool around with different gaskets to make it fit right.
