HELP! OBD1 CEL code 21.
Hello everyone this is my first post here and o hope to have many more not always issue related lol it amazing me the awesome builds people have done on here and all the information I pull them I see from 2002 or something haha awesome to have so much experience at the fingertips. Anywyas most of you are probably ready to say vtech solenoid, replace or clean it/bad wiring ect. But this cel will be the end of me not realbut I've seriously tried just about everything from a new solenoid and all fresh vetch wiring (yes triple chihecked correct pins) still can't get rid of the code so I purchased an ecu a few days ago (another p28) btw sorry for not mentioning before but this is in a e.g. Hatch that I just built from the ground up and mini me swapped but I used a non vetch main harness so when the project was done I just had to wire in vtec hand expected the cel to disappear after an ecu reset but weeks later I find myself finally joining Honda tech and not just milking it. Moving on my question is if you guys have any ideas because at this point I've sorta convinced myself it's a bad ecu although idk how because I was just running it in another hatch shell before the project but I don't wanna throw my new one in if it is bad and something is causing it to fry. Also have a bad idle hunt pretty much 24/7 when idling and I thought sensors but went through the list and am now looking at ecu again. I have opened ecu and there are some little brown spots around I can see I don't know if this is a result of heat and it frying or normal. All in all just really confusing because I've never heard of an ecu being bad and only giving these symptoms. Sorry for such a long post and being all over the place. Thanks for any help!

Re: HELP! OBD1 CEL code 21.
I'm sorry I labeled that wrong, it's a full z6 stock at the moment so never really been messed with, but I am building another z6 for boost so am familiar with the engine. Anyways let me know what you were getting at but I do know that code 22 is oil pressure vtech related but code 21 will always relate to spool or power wire.

Disconnect the battery, unplug the ECU, and measure the resistance of the VTEC solenoid from the ECU end, so you are measuring through all your wiring. The wiring should add approximately 0 ohms resistance. In other words you should measure the same at the ECU end that you do measuring the solenoid directly.

Aha very clever mk, of course I had measure d resistance at the silinoid itself but never thought of that because I was wanting to make sure the wiring was all good. Which it really should be as I pulled it from from my vtec main harness that I had been using in my old hatch for years so it’s pretty Oem no custom wiring, and yeah lol I would have just used that whole harnes but was driving with it at the project time. Anyways thanks for the advice I will do this when hanging out with some car buddy’s tomorrow and let you know my results.
