hello everyone... i just bought a 1995 Honda civic hatch back VX for daily driving... im getting like 28 mpg and i don't think that seems right... as you probably guess it has a check engine light... i did the flasher trick and it threw a code 48 everything i read says thats the o2 sensor... ok so i changed that out it was $400 !!! and it didn't solve the problem... it also idles kinda funny after warming it up it will rev up and then down up and down then after more time driving that will go away... i don't know what to do... so i went to auto zone and bought another o2 sensor to test to see if the one i bought was bad... it did the same thing! what else could be wrong???

you have a 1995 VX which means you have obd1 - Code 48 is :48 LAF - lean air fuel sensor.

CEL# for o2 = #1, or in some cases like my car hten you may also get a #41 (primary o2 heater).

This is why replacing the o2 sensor will not fix your problem.

the d15z1 engine runs an stock wideband o2 sensor and depending on where you can get one they are 300-400 dollars

The code you got is saying that the sensor is reading improper air/fuel mix...which means your O2 sensor was not actually bad. You have an issue further up in the system.

just because it says o2 sensor code, doesn't mean it's the o2 sensor... sometimes u get lucky and it is the o2. it really could be any sensors that throw off the o2 sensor.. ECT, MAF, MAP, etc.. maybe you need to check other emission components

ive got a vx, and when i had crappy milage it WAS my o2 sensor. I had the idle up and down problem too, it turned out to be my PCV valve wich was $3.02 from autozone, and it took like 1 min to change. I recommend checking your IACV to see if its clogged, alot of people told me it was this, but it was not.

After replacing something you think might be the problem, you have to reset your ECU. pul lthe 7.5 amp fuse under your hood next to the battery. NOT the one marked ECU, it doesn't reset your it. Might as well do a tune up to it while your at it. Plugs, wires, cap and rotor, along with some seafoam through the intake and in your gas. good luck

ok ill check the "pvc" and the ivca... anything else i should do?

ill change the cap and rotor

seller told me it has new plugs and wire ill check that out and what is sea foam??? im not familiar with this stuff i guess ill google it for now!

how many miles?
what has been done to the engine recently (in the last 5k miles)
did you reset the ECU after replacing the parts?
does it actually have the D15Z1 engine in it? (silly question but if its not...)

the VX and P07 are very picky about a lot of things. these random things can cause this CEL
ignition timing being off after replacing the distributor
timing belt slip a tooth
PCV valve's hose weak to the point of collapsing under vacuum (that was fun to find)
old plugs
old plug wires
faulty cap/rotor
(funky spark = funky burn = too much fuel or still on fire when it hits the O2)

I have not seen everyone of these set the VX CEL, but I've seen each of them set an O2 CEL on hondas. A few when I had my VX.

So I have the same code as described number 48 lean air fuel mixture. But it just started I put some d16 injectors that I had sitting on a shelf they were clean and good “was in my perfect 94 ex coupe” and would that cost the same issue?

Yes. VX injectors are 190 cc/min and regular D16 injectors are 240 cc/min, so you are over fueling. You'll need to install the correct injectors.
