Default Help. Lights keep dimming. Short somewhere?

I just bought a 98 EK. I didn't notice one issue with it since I bought it during the day and wasn't that noticable, but now is driving me nuts. The lights keep dimming and brightening by themselves. It's a fast dimming and brightening. Don't matter what light it is either, every single light and anything that lights up.

Can it be the alternator? Should I get the charging sytem checked. Also, it doesn't matter if the running/head lights are on or off. It only happens when the car is running. Also, the speed sensor doesn't work. The speedometer needle starts jumping around by itself, even while not moving. Can this be the same issue or just a bad speed sensor?

If you ever suspect a battery, starter or alternator issue, go to your local autoparts store (Advance or Autozone for example) and get them to do a check right there in the parking lot. It's free too.

Yes, this is a pretty common issue with certain Civics. A friend of mine had the same problem since the car was new. Try searching around a bit. I'm not certain whether an exact cause has ever been identified, but many people suggest replacing the alternator and/or voltage regulator.
