HELP!!! Car won't start after brake job... can't understand...
K, here's what went down. I changed my rear disks and pads on my 93 si this weekend, had some trouble with air getting the lines. No big deal, got that sorted out. So I drop the car off the stands, and try to start it...
In the ON position, all dash lights light up, all appears normal. Turn the key, and I get a LOUD rapid ticking noise coming from the starter area I believe. Got a friend to turn the key while I listened and the sound definately comes from the backside of the block/tranny area (starter area).
Tried unplugging the + terminal for 15 mins and reconnecting... did nothing. Battery voltage checks out I just don't get it, did nothing but change the brakes. If it's not one thing it's another... SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP !!!

When you say that the battery Voltage was allright, what exactly was the reading?
Check all your fuses, and grounds.
Just because you get say 12 volts from the battery under no load doesn't necessarily mean you'll have enough power to crank the starter. I'd charge that battery off the car if at all possible then try again.

yup, static and loaded voltage are 2 totally different things. id take the battery to vatozone and have them test it. i cant count how many batteries ive seen that show fully charged but drop to nearly nothing when you load it down (like starting a car)

I'll get a friend to help me with it tomorrow. But just to make clearer, the engine doesn't even crank... I turn the key and all I get is the LOUD, fast, rapid ticking noise. Any other suggestions ???

sounds like you have a voltage problem either going to the started solenoid, or else your solenoid on the starter is going bad. the only way to check this is to see if you're getting full battery voltage down to the starter. If you are, then you most likely have a starter solenoid going bad.

Sounds like the battery is low on juice while cranking, OR a bad ground. Either will create that 'noise'... I've heard it countless times.

check your ground on starter and alternator, try jumping the battery to see if its your battery

have your friend crank the car and hit the starter with a hammer lightly while he's doing it

battery voltage dipped down so low after multiple start attempts that it had to be boosted... seemed to have done the trick. gotta hate stupid problems...
