You unplug the ecu while it was on???

And you problem got a vacuum leak if its just revving up by itself.
I remind starting my car with the pcv hose off and it just rev up like I was hitting wot.
So check for vac leaks. Cracks in hose. Broken hoses, intake gasket, tb gasket etc..

Also clean your iacv it could be getting stuck open.

Just remember to bleed the coolant system to get any air introduced whilst cleaning the iacv out. im not sure why you unplugged the ECU im a little lost if that's what you meant to say....

my car sometimes idles at 1800, then drops back down to the usual 500-800 range, so I'm assuming it's normal?

As far as the redline goes, check for vac. leaks like they said. Another thing, is that throttle cable really tight or is there some loose play present? I, like an idiot, tightened that cable on an older car (Sentra 02') to improve throttle response. It worked at first, but a few mins into the drive, the rev's shot up like hell and started redlining while I was on neutral.. it was scary. I pulled over and loosened the cable immediately. Did you mess with that cable?

It is supposed to idle at 1500-1800 when the engine is cold, then as it warms up, the idle should go down to 750 or so. Sounds to me like it's almost certainly a vacuum leak.

What have you done to the care lately? Any mods to speak of? Sounds alot like a vac leak to me.

He needs to take it off and clean it. Two bolts and it should come out of the manifold. two coolant lines on the bottom. Pull it off and soak it in brake parts cleaner. Your car should have a consistent idle afterwards. Might be worth the time to pull off the FITV under the throttle body and show it some love too.

, i do not need a new mechanic, he did my whole swap, and a excellent job at it.

when i got my car back my iacv was acting up, so he messed with the throttle so it raised the idle to where he wanted it
but now my iacv works correctly
