Default crazy idle surge and car doesnt move..Help!!!!

My car has an erratic idle it goes from 1500-3500 just up and down up and down and when it does that my speedo also climbs up too. The car also doesnt move, it goes into gear but it wont move. Ive double checked everything and all the wiring are right, it also has a new intake manifold gasket and throttle body gasket. I cleaned out the iacv and that didnt help either. I dont know what to do anymore i need some help so if anybody has any ideas please reply...thanks a lot

What did you do to the car before it started donig this?? The surging idle sounds like a vaccum leak to me.

i took the engine out to clean it up, to swap trannys out and to change the intake manifold gasket. The car was running fine before but now i cant figure out why its doing all this.

I would look to the intake mani for your problems. It sounds like you have a vaccum leak thre and also, you should go back and double check everything that you did. Taking a whole motor and everything out leaves a lot of room for things to go wrong.

i just checked my manifold and sprayed carb cleaner around it to see if there was any leaks but couldnt find anything. I also just checked my plugs and they are really black so that means im running really lean. Do you think it can be an ignition problem?...thanks for the help

It definately could be. Pull the plugs and make sure you are getting spark. There are only so many things you can check..spark, fuel....

I really think this is either wiring related or a vaccum leak. Do you have a CEL on?

i had the problem and it wa IACV
if you have a swap, you really need to go over all that wiring
if its beyond that, check more sensors on the throttle body
any codes!?!?

I just changed my dist., It helped a lil but now my car has a really rough idle and it will either stay at a constant 1000 or itll go up and down to 1-1500rpms. The idle is really rough it sounds like a harley sort of. I dont know what else i should check. Could it be the main relay?

when we were putting my dizzy together (had to redo the wiring from obd1 to obd2) one of the wires were loose. started the car and had a really ruff start and kill and it sounded like the valves were knocking. 24 hours later, found out that one of the wires were loose, reconnecting it and resaughtering (cant spell), the rough start, kill, and knocking were gone.
