Have faith in honda..i did and i have a customer for life.
I work at a full service repair shop, today i had a customer that came in with a 96 civic sedan(1.6 sohc non vtec) . they had another transmission..and said they were having problems with the trans(trans shop told them)..and to go ahead and replace..with this junkyard trans from a 99 ex sohc vtec(wich im not sure if it would work) anyway...this car had 115k...now i love honda..and i have faith in honda, so i had to make sure this was an actual transmission problem 115K is to low for me to believe a dinky civic is having tranny problems...i took it out on the road..man did it shift funny..also the spedo was crazy..i was hmm okay, but it didnt feel like it was slipping to me..It had a CEL so i checked the codes..it had five! and two o2 sensor codes, speed sensor code and so on..ahhh so let do some research and diagnosis. turns out theres a black wire behind the intake mani. that rubs against the mount, shorts it out and pops fuse 15 (7.5amp) BAM! you get a cel with 5 codes and a spunky spedo, and wierd shifting..so i just wrapped the wiring pulled it back away from the mount, replace the fuse and it was fixed.
i thought it was very intresting and thought i'd share that..the web site that lead me in the right direction is IDENTIFIX...and let me tell you.. this site is awesome..its pretty much right all the time..has never failed me.
