halp!! 98 civic ac compressor wont turn on.
ok my problem is i'm not getting any power to my compressor. i traced the wire from the compressor through the front radiator support under the passengerside fender into the wheel well and found that there was a split connector under the wheel well.
i disconnected the connector and ran a wire directly from the battery to the red wire(which is the compressor wire) and the compressor does in fact turn on when i jimmy rig it.
so now i know its somewhere between my climate control and my passenger side wall i'm not getting power.
i did check all the fuses and nothing seems to be blown. the light on my climate control does light up.
and currently my blower motor resistor is toast so i'm not getting any action on 1 and 2 settings but i am on 3 and 4. could this have any effect on why my compressor is not turning on? anyhow i'm off to find a blower motor resistor just because i need to fix that anyway.
any help is greatly appreciated.

checked under the hood relays all of them are good.
i think i worded it wrong earlier. i am getting air. 1 2 3 and 4 works now. the only thing thats not getting power is the compressor.

Test the continuity of the red wire that connects the compressor clutch relay to the compressor clutch. Based on your information, the wire is damaged somewhere and therefore should lack continuity. Once verified, the work is finding the break in the wire.

yup im almost sure theres a break in the wire now. i just went back with my voltometer and checked the voltage at the fuses and its getting power thats for sure..
from the passengerside wheel well to the compressor there is no break... how i know that? well i connected a wire from that point to the battery. so its somewhere between the climate switch and the wheel well.
sucks i need to find a manual with the wiring schematics.

Re: (gaydm.accord)
follow these steps son.
check ac/condensor fuse underdash. #17
check underhood fuse #56, 20amp.
turn car to on position, remove condersor fan relay underhood, check voltage between #4 terminal which is bottom left slot of the four slots, and a body ground.
if there is voltage, more on to the next step, if not, you have a bad wire somewhere between the condensor fan relay terminal and the no. 17 underdash fuse.
if voltage is present, check for continuity at a/c pressure switch which is located on top of your receiver/drier behind your washer fluid tank.
if there is no continuity, either the switch is bad or the pressure in your a/c system is too low.
check the pressure in your a/c low side.
i bet you either need a recharge or one of your fuses is blown.

k papi.
checked the fuse under dash 17 = good
checked underhood fuse #56 = good
turn car to on position and checked condensor fan relay terminal #4 = good.
i had a complete vacuum and recharge of my system yesterday and also did a leakdown test and my system is good. when i jump the system it blows cold air so im sure i am not low. not because it blows cold but because of the gauge reading and because i did a leakdown so i doubt its the pressure.
i did check the pressure switch and i am getting some type of reading its really low i'm not sure what its suppose to be at but its no where near 12/13.
so i also checked for continuity right under the fenderwell and im getting no continuity. could that also be a factor that maybe i have a break in the line from that point?
and i dont know what the previous owner did to the vehicle but theres alot of sloppy hacked up wires which is why i question it may be a break in the wire from the dash to fenderwell. but i cant find the schematics of where the wire runs behind the glove so i am stuck till i can find where the wires run/if it changes colors.
and just to eliminate the probability that its the drier pressure switch. i am going to get a hold of my friends switch and pop that one on.

Re: (gaydm.accord)
with the a/c on, do you not have power at the #2 terminal on the condensor relay? by the way, is the condensor fan turning on when you flip the a.c on?

ok i just checked the switch again i am not getting continuity.
the condensor fan is turning on.
so i suppose the pressure switch is the culprit??? i'm gonna try using my friends tomorrow

For full troubleshooting details, see pgs 22-12 to 22-16 of the 96-00 service manual.
