had this problem before on a d series now b series doing same thing.
So i originally posted that i was having problems with my ride "check engine light came on throwing code 9 (CYP cylinder sensor) which i still dont know what or how to fix. Anyways i pulled the cap and rotor off and to my surprise the screw that holds the rotor on some how camme out and wreaked all types of damage in the cap.....replaced all components (cap, rotor, screw) my question is that my car still surges and the check engine light is still on i have a chopped distributor which has worked suprising well.
but i will buying a new one on the 2nd. Anyways how do you fix a this problem and is it really a distributor problem i thought that check engine lights came on if it was an emissions problem. not an ignition one just need some clairification.

By having an ignition problem, you can have cylinders start to misfire. A cylinder misfire is an incomplete combustion where some unburnt fuel passes into the exhaust and out your tailpipe.
The screw probably beat up the little sensor wheel as it was turning 3k rpm's. Sounds like you need a new distributor...good luck!

is it obd2? if so ur alternator may have chopped ur crank postion sensor wires located by the main accesory pulley. the plug is just above the alt.
this will cause the ecu to pull timing or fatten up the fuel maps so it will bog and not rev a freely
however there is a cyp trigger in the dizzy as well. but if this is wacked ur car will most likely misfire

no that reffered only to obd2
in obd2 there is a crank postion sensor located by the the alt. and main pulley
in ur case repacing the dizzy as a whole and then clearing the codes should fix ur problem
