H22 Tranny noise - Help appreciated
I recently got a H22 with LSD swap into my 95 EG. Apparently, everything was working great except for a grinding problem whenever I up-shifted into 3rd Gear. The place that I got the engine from covered the problem, took the car/engine in and replaced the syncro set with a brand new one from Honda. Now everything is okay with regards to shifting, except that when I decelarate I get a loud hissing and rumbling sound that's seems to be coming from the tranny(the loud noise appears to be more noticable only when I'm decelarating while at 3rd gear or 4th gear). BTW...the guy that tore apart the tranny to put in the new synro set also put in a brand new flywheel(fidanza), pressure plate(ACT) and clutch(Exedy) for me. Could any of these combinations cause the noise that I'm getting?
Appreciate any and all help.
Thank You,
Darwin

I purchased the flywheel, pressure plate and clutch from Gordon Pun of Speedy Motorsports(415-613-2911) he's located in San Francisco and does ship orders in the 48 contiguous states. As for the install of the above items, it was all done by Jeff Sloan who owns a local shop in San Jose(Hybrid Automotive 408-661-0610).

By same setup, I assume you have LSD on your H22 Tranny as well? Do you experience any of the same issues I noted above?
As to the vibration issues unfortunately, I can't imagine where to start with that as I don't seem to have that problem. Although, just to give it a long shot, is possible that it has something to do with engine mounts? How old / new are they?
Also, I assume that you took out your engine when you did the work you mentioned below. Therefore, I would probably check to make sure that your engine / tranny has enough clearance from the part of the cars frame and that there's no possibility of it rubbing or slightly banging against anything which may cause the vibration that you are sensing when you run your car hard.
Please, keep me posted with what you find.
Thanks,
Darwin

Being that we have the same setup, I believe I still have the original packaging for the fidanza flywheel, exedy clutch disc, and act pressure plate that I purchased and would be happy to look up the part numbers for you so you can compare with yours if you want. Let me know either way.

No problem...keep me posted with what you find. As for the car, it runs great except for the tranny noise I mentioned. I haven't run the car on the track or for 1/4 mile yet...I'm looking to do a couple more things done before I do. I'll keep you posted.
Thanks,
Darwin
