gs-R block on b16a2 head..
whats everybody's opinion on this setup. gs-R block on a b16a2 head. stock i/m & t/b, ctr cams, skunk 2 adj. cam gears, and rmf narrow replica header running through a 2.5" exhaust
the b16a2 has no tq and i just wanna beef it up abit. whats the good>better>best thing i should do to the block

It's called a poor mans type r. Many people have done it and it works well. Use a thinner head gasket if you can to bring up compression

Re: gs-R block on b16a2 head..
how about just throwing in some better pistons like jdm sir, or itr or ctr?
wanna do a reliable budget build. and not to forget that i will be using ctr cams so i highly doubt i could use a thinner head gasket.

Why not? A thinner headgasket won't affect your cams... and why not just throw in a complete GSR longblock? a B16 head would yield a lower compression than a complete GSR longblock.

lol i have asked this qhestion...basically u will lose power if u just slap a b16 head on a gsr. the head would get alot better air flow but u wold need ttto make up for the lost compression by adding a thinner head gasket or upgrading ur pistons.

if this is a dd i would not reccomend you run ctr pistons for it it can be done but it has to be done by a very reputable tuner so that you dont run lean and kaboom.....if your on a budget build i wouldnt reccomend ctr

Just throwing a b16 head on a gsr block wouldn't gain you anything. You'd probably lose power. You've got the right idea but some internals need to be changed if you want a real poor man's R. There's a write up somewhere I'm pretty sure.

Re: gs-R block on b16a2 head..
ya im probably just gonna go LS-V with some used jdm b16 pistons with new piston rings installed. im just hoping the ctr cams wont hit the piston..
is there much tq difference in the b20 block?

Dont quote me on this, but I have heard that the b20 bottom ends make some of the most tq, minus bringing k20s or h22/23 into play. If anyone can correct me, then shoot.

OP, reading your 1st post, you have a B16A right now?
If your adding a gsr block will give you a decent bump in torque. Some people mention abouot losing power....well the deal is that on a stock gsr, the p72 head has squared off quench area. The B16A (PR3) which i'm assuming you have already will lose only .1 in compression, that is why i mentioned to use a thinner head gasket to make up for it.
If your just buying a short block, go for it.
As far as changing pistons go, sure, you can change them up for some B16A pistons, it will bumper compression by a decent margin. Here's a compression calculator......

Re: gs-R block on b16a2 head..
yea, once i read the thread i was like what...you mean b16 head on a gsr block...anyways cant really help cuz what all do you have already? cant suggest much if you dont let us know what you have or think about buying. your current set up is good. if its your dd get itr pistons(should fit on the gsr rods with no mods) that way you stay in the 11:1 cr range. also, the cams arent gonna hit the pistons its the valves that do but with itr pistions should be fine. with ctr cams the motor will pretty much be a poormans type r(without the factor ported head, which itr comes with). it really depends what you have already...let us know so we can help.
