Gas Mileage Question
Never really payed any attention to my gas and mileage readings but after researching on Edmunds it's showing that my car has a 12 gallon fuel tank and I should be getting about 300-350 miles on each full tank of gas (city driving). Ever since I have owned my car, it takes approximately 7.5 gallons to fill it up and I get about 200-220 miles on a full tank. Can anybody shed some light on this situation? Thanks.

Re: (EJ1)
heres what you do...fill up...then set your odometer to zero...then when ur tank goes to E...go fill up...and take the mileage on your odometer and divide it by the number of gallons you filled up...indicating MPG...
MPG * 11.2 (93 DX tank size) = miles you can go on a full tank
Honda gas gauges SUCK...they read E when you still have 1/3 of a tank left...i've been on E for well over 100 miles before and I've been fine...just do that calculation I showed you to see how far you can go

I'm on E when I have 3g left. My light comes on with 2g left Better safe than sorry though, although I've now trained myself to ignore the E mark and the light

AFAIK there is some law or regulation that says *all* gas guages read empty while there is still 2 or 3 gallons left in the tank. With the milage a honda gets that's just alot more signifigant difference then say on an SUV.
I usually dont even start worrying about filling up till I hit 250 in my car, and by that time the guage has been buried in the E for a day or two at least...

No, dumbass. My tank was at E at 215 miles...and I know I get at least 30 MPG (highway driving) based on my calculation posted above...meaning i can go 30x11.2 = 336...I didnt fill up till 315 or later and I still only filled up like 9 or 10 gallons

Re: (BauleyCivic)
In my 97 ex i got just over 400 miles on a tank, averaged 37.6 mpg, but it was on the red line at E since around 300 miles.
Its funny tho, because at half a tank, it was right at 200, so that was pretty accurate.

My friend's Si hatch got 320-330 miles to a full tank. but he had a DX tranny in it for a lil while until he could get a Si tranny. (he has an si tranny in it now)
