Default front end shake

Whats up fellas? I got a 96 DX civic coupe. Every time I drive it, the front end and steering wheel shakes. I just got brand new rims and tires put on. I got it balanced like three times just to make sure. I even got it alighned and got a new cv axle because the boot was torn and was pretty dry. Dude, I even bought those stupid plastic hub rings, and it still does it. Ny steering wheel shakes and rocks back and forth constantly, but gets the worse at about 65 MPH. It seems to get a little better at about 80 MPH. Has anybody ever had this problem? Its starting to cost too much!

I have that same ******* problem DooD I am buying new axles soon hopefully that will fix it because my passenger side boot is ALSO cracked and dry. But you said it didn't help, hmmm *shrugs*

I'm gonna stick around for this because nobody seemed to answer my question when I asked this same thing.

I'm betting its your motor mounts.....both of you. Search about busted motot mounts, luserkid knows how to check to see if you have a busted one without pulling anything. He's mentioned how to do it in a few threads.

well if the steering wheel shakes back and forth it could be because the rotors are uneven and kicking the wheel back and forth, If thats the case the brakes should pulse. You could have other problems too like ball joints, tie-rod ends, or motor mounts(although I dont know that a motor mount would make your steering wheel shake).

Reason I said motor mounts is because at low speeds (which most New York city people drive at) the engine will jerk more. Like stop and go traffic. However, rotors could possibly cause this as well. But depending the severity(sp) of the shake, it could be something bigger. The rotors could only cause so much movement.

motor mounts can be the cause... the driver's side mount is prone to break first. i would also check your upper and lower ball joints and then if you still having problems it may be your wheel hubs have excessive runout....

what's up? Im having the same problem with my car, when I try to brake at 45 mph the front end would shake. some people said it has to do with the rotors. Others said it has to do with the the wheel bearings or hub. But I really dont know whats up.
Has anybody fix this problem?

Has anyone find out what is really the problem with this ?

sounds like brakes and rotors and possibly motor mount. I would check the brakes first. CV boots make a cracking noise when they are completely gone. The shaking may be caused by the motor mount but if you are still getting the same problem when you are already driving, it is more likely to be the rotors and brakes. good luck man

My opinion is that it is very important to identify exactly when the problem began, if you can. If it was fine before you installed the new wheels it has to be related to them. If you had the problem before you started swapping parts and nothing so far has worked, what these guys are suggesting needs to be eliminated one by one. I hate a shaking wheel so I feel for you. Don't give up.

What kind of condition are your shocks/springs in?

Busted shocks, busted mounts, worn tie-rods, worn ball joints, off-balance tires - all of these will cause a shaky steering wheel.

Does this happen when braking? Then consider the rotors as a possible culprit.

you know what it did do it with the stock rims on. i just thought it was the balance, but obviousley not. dude, maybe i bought some bunk rims and tires? but i rotated them already from the front to the back, so the chances of having like four shotty rims and tires is pretty slim. i just bought some rotors though, gonna put them on this weekend 3-19 LATER BRO

im not too sure what kind of condition the shocks are in, but ill find out this weekend when i put on my coil-overs. but the thing is, i can see the wheel starting to rock back and forth like right when i take off. it does it at 5 mph and gets worse all the way up to like 65-70. its almost like i have a bubble on a tire. fells the same way. THIS SUCKS
