Default flex pipe?

okay..ive been searching and cant find a dam answer... okay so i installed my header the other day and noticed i didn't have a flex pipe in my exhaust. Is it a must to have one? or is it safe to live without a flex pipe?

on a stock setup there shouldnt be a need for a flex pipe. i run one on my car from the downpipe to the testpipe, but thats strictly cause its boosted.

you dont have a flex pipe but you probably have spring-loaded bolts found on many Civics and Integras which will keep the exhaust flanges and welds from cracking when the engine moves.

^^^^^^^^^^yup, exactly. That allows enough play so things can move. If you're real concerned, put stiffer mounts in or Window Weld them.

well yea thats the thing...my header connects to my catback...the cat has been eliminated. And there are no spring bolts. The whole exhaust is stiff, and solid. I have a b16 and have a motor mount insert in the back mount. One of my friends has the same setup wit no flex either and told me its perfectly fine not to have a flex. But another guy told me if i dont have one ill ripe my header. So yea...im soo confused.

well its better to get one just in case.. however it also depends on how you drive.. if you decide to drive on the freeway at around 55mph and then decide to put your gear from 5th to 2nd gear and throttle it, then most likely the header may crack.. however you have a b16 which I doubt has any torque. Something like an h22 motor will definitely need a flex pipe or spring loaded bolts because of the torque being pushed out. Stiffer mounts are also better than nothing and also the front 2 rubber vibration mounts helps a bit.

okay....that helped alot...n i dont really down shift from 5th to 2nd...but sometimes 5th to 3rd....and i like to bang gears...lol thats what was worring me... And im running a sttifer clutch which grabs pretty hard...so i was thinking that the header might crack due to banging gears.

get a flex pipe off eBay and have it welded into the test pipe if you want.
