My sisters 98 ex died on her last week. I checked it out and it wasnt getting spark. It has a new cap/rotor/wires. I pop the cap off and notice the coil looks a little swollen. I pull it out and see that its cracked and pretty swollen. Grab a new coil and put it in and still no spark....

All the grounds are good, what else to look for? Could the coil going bad taken anything else with it like the ignitor?

UPDATE: swapped in a complete different distributor and car started up

You might just wanna repace the whole thing the igniter might have went bad also.

Yea thats the next step over the weekend, just wanted to make sure i wasnt over looking anything.

When i had my dad go in the car to turn the key i could have swore i saw a quick spark b4 it turned over.... is there some sort of relay or anything to check since the motor is actually spinning? or does that mean they are all good

best way to check is in a completely dark room but sometimes you will get a quick flash but than it dies.

sometimes the main relay under the dash goes.. its kinda between the column and the side panel it dont look like a regular relay... but your prob sounds more like the distributor...

any way to test the main relay?? maybe thats my problem..

no way to really test them you just change them.
