Engine sputtering/shaking bad. Help.

Engine sputtering/shaking bad. Help.
Ok, the problem started yesterday when I was driving. Was in 1st and the motor suddenly pops into a really low rhaspy sputter and starts shaking horribly.
Got the car back home, checked it out this morning when it was lighter and I can't see anything wrong. When it happened there was no smoke or fluid anywhere coming from the engine bay. I started the car, and it idles with that horrible rhaspy sound and shakes. The noise sounds like it's coming from the IM or firewall side of the motor but I can't see anything. Motor is a jdm d15b.
Any guesses as to what could cause this deep sputter and shaking without anything blowing up as far as i can tell because there was no smoke or fluids of any kind when it happened.
