Engine Rebuild Questions D16Z6 DD Turbo
Hi everyone, just a noobie from Hawaii looking for advise on a planned D16Z6 build up for my '94 Civic Ex
.
I'm looking to due an extensive build up, forged pistons and rods, block resleeve, Crower Stage II turbo cam, SuperTech complete valvetrain, XAct street lite flywheel, and most likely a Edelbrock 1502(steet legal) or 1503 (open track-if I can find a good experienced tuner and a closer commercially available dyno-nearest one is over 100 miles away). The car is a '94 Civic Ex, suspension parts so far are: Koni Sports w/GC coilovers, ES master bushing kit, ST F/R sway bars, & Konig 15x6.5 Heliums. I have a set of weight scales being shipped to me for corner balancing the suspension.
What kind of boost range should I go for with 92 octane pump gas?
I have two long blocks, the original one with badly scored rod journals (ex wife ran it for several weeks with loud bearing knock!...part of the reason why I got the divorce ) which I could either try to find a used crank from a D16 (from what I have researced here at H-T, all D16s have interchangeable cranks or do some of them have different snout diameters?) or should I buy a remanufactured one.
Which replacement crank would be a better bet for a boosted build up, used or remanufactured?
The second long block I got was pulled from a rear ended wreck, has a block that is tagged with a REMANUFACTURED aluminum plate with about 40,000 miles on it, would this be a better shortblock for rebuilding and forget about the original block and replacement crank?
Would anyone care to look over my list of tools necessary for a good block reassembly and comment/add to it? So far, I have on my list of needed tools are:
1. Cam degreeing kit with dial indicator, test springs
2. Piston ring filer
3. ring compressor
4. Plastigauge (or should I invest in mikes and bore gauges)
5. Rod bolt stretch gauge
6. Height mike for valves/retainers/springs (what size?)
7. Torque wrenches
Aside from the torque wrenches that I already have, is it worth the investment or just pay to have the shortblock assembled professionally?
All comments and suggestions are welcomed as I want to do it right the first time!
Aloha and TIA!
