Electrical/ignition issues (searched already)
I have searched all over the forums for someone with a relation to my issue.
Ok, my car died on the highway today and was showing some signs it would in the past. The electrical would cut off, then cut back on, and today it finally cut off.
After I towed it home, I checked out the wiring. When I put my key in the ACC position, nothing happened. When I went into the ON position, no dash lights would come on, no radio, no clock, etc. The only things working are the headlights, corners, tailights, brakelights, gauge lights, and the annoying beeping from the doors.
I checked all my fuses. My 10A interior fuse was shot. I replaced it. All the others were fine. I wiggled the wires from the ignition switch/fuse box/fuel relay, etc and the electrical turned on.
When I'd put them back, the electrical would shut off. I started messing with the wiring, pulling back the electrical tape from the non-working car alarm to check everything out. All connections are fine.
After I started unrolling the electrical tape off the wires, the electrical never turned on again.
I've d/ced the fuse box, all the fuse box sockets, the fuel relay, and everything else under there and reconnected them.
I'm all out of possibilities. All engine fuses are fine. When the key is in the ACC position, no electrical, when in ON, no ignition.

Re: Electrical/ignition issues (spnej1)
Ok, here is an update. I bought a multimeter and started testing out the circuits in the fuse box.
Mostly all the fuses are fine except for Starter 7.5A and Radio 15A.
My mind is boggled. I have thought of everything. Should I try to run a direct connection from a working fuse to my starter fuse/radio fuse?
Still no ACC. Still no ignition.
I tested the ignition switch. One wire is giving me a .1-.3V reading, I believe white or white/blk.
Batt readout is 11.5V, tested ECU fuse voltage, none. Backup fuse was blown. All my engine fuses are fine.

Re: Electrical/ignition issues (spnej1)
Try this....
Put your key in the ignition...Turn it to 'On' (nothing should happen)...Now turn the key inbetween the 'On' and 'Start' position...If everything comes on as it should (fuel pump, dash lights, main relay click), then it is more than likely your ignition switch...
If nothing still comes on, then continue to troubleshoot...
Hope this helps

Slowcivic:
No such thing. All I have is a ground wire from the battery to the strut tower bolt.
All the engine ground wires are on tight, terminals tight. Checked voltage on starter again. 12V.
Pulled the ignition switch wire off the starter, tried to read it. No voltage.
Pulled the ignition switch off. Checked wires out. Nothing. No voltage.
Checked voltage on fuel pump relay, one line has a 12V reading. Checked another relay on the fuse box, black w/ white harness. All wires 12V. Checked the brown harness on the fuse box with 5-6 wires in it. Big wire gets a 12V readout. 1-2 more on there get 12V readouts.
Pulled the alarm system completely off the car. I am stuck. For some reason, I have an orange wire that feeds into a relay, I'm not sure if it goes into the alarm or is stock.
I'll have pics up soon.
Jimmy:
Tried that. No signal.

Well, first off, what car do you have.
And you will have a tranny to battery ground, daisy chained to the frame or not.
Second off, why don't you manually start the car with the ignition wires on the cylinder to determine if that is your problem or not.
It's useless to troubleshoot every other problem (fuel pump, starter) if you simply ignore the ignition cylinder, which is clearly having an issue. I suggest you take care of that first.

Slowcivic:
It is a 1993 EX (EJ1).
When you say jump the starter, what do you mean? Alittle confused. Thanks
Teg:
I am getting no voltage on my ignition switch harness on the fuse box AND the ignition switch itself. I don't think that is my issue.

Notice all you normally get this time of day are posts from the east coast?
A 93 Civic is an EG. Ive seen a lot for problems like this with cars from up here. I bought a 96 DX recently and it has so much corrosion on electrical component conections, probably from road salt. It could be your ignition cylinder as well. It's easy to spend a lot of time chasing down problems like these. Good luck and keep at it.

Re: Electrical/ignition issues (mcvtec)
mcvtec, coupes are called EJ-1s, but they are EG Civics.
I think it is road salt, too. The splash guards are missing in both fenders.

Thanks everybody. I ran a direct feed to my ignition switch and the car started!
Faulty ignition switch or faulty ignition switch harness. One or the other!
