You need to check fuses first. Which year and what model?

Check the fuse #19(50A) and #15(80A) in under-hood fuse/relay box.
Check the fuse #9(7.5A) in under-dash fuse/relay box

A long shot but an easy check is the negative battery cable that runs from battery to chassis of car. If that cable is frayed, corroded, etc., it can let enough current flow to run lights and stuff, but not enough to crank and start the engine.

Even if that cable is not the issue, be sure to disconnect it before doing much more electrical wiring stuff. Stuff sparking while you are installing or removing it ain't good.

Is the starter on your car the original? How many miles? Any trouble with it turning slowly in recent weeks?

Strange as it may sound, you could try giving the housing of the starter a good whack with a hammer or tire iron and then try starting the car. Mine failed two years ago with symptoms like yours; turn key and nothing happens, other lights and stuff work. I hit it with a hammer every morning for a week to get it started, until I had a chance to replace the starter. If the hammer trick works, the starter is definitely bad.

everything was replaced about 80k ago. new engine, starter, clutch whole 9 yards. and i haven't had any problems with her tell the ignition lock cylinder locked up last week.

and i'll check my fuses again. Make sure i'm not fooling myself on them being good.

that happened to me once and i thought it was the starter. turns out just needed to clean the battery terminals. boy that was a expensive mistake
$55 for the car dolly to tow it and $15 for them to diagnose and clean the battery terminals. not to mention the 1.5 days of work i missed (pizza delivery) it added up. me and my old mechanic sure got a good laugh over it. since than that is the first thing i check when it won't start

That's why the headlight/radio/blower test are not enough to rule out the battery or the cables between the battery and starter. The juice required to run those other things is nowhere close to the juice required for a starter to turn over an engine.

At least your mechanic was honest about it. A lot of them would have tried to turn the corrosive buildup on that terminal into a much fatter paycheck.

yeah he was the only one that i could drop it off and no matter what i knew that any repairs he did were legit. that and he would call me first before he did anything if it wasn't something we already had planned. too bad he went out of business.

and here i thought he shorted his new ignition switch cause he install it without pulling the battery... and would of advise that he should get a test light and test it during the on position and run position

yeah it is always best to not to mess with electrical stuff with the battery hooked up just to be safe

Mine used to lock up and I had to jiggle the wheel to get it to finally turn. It turned out the key was worn out. Spare key or courtesy key worked perfectly.

have you checked to see if you are getting power to the starter?

did you ever check the relays? and like mentioned earlier i would get a light tester for a couple bucks and just check stuff to see if it is even getting power like the ignition switch

im having the same problem now except that mine happens only one day out of every 2 to 3 weeks and im always able to push start it if i have to. The first time it happened the guys at the shop checked it and said the battery terminals needed to be tightened and fixed it. 2 weeks later it happened again??? Since its an intermittent issue that hardly happens could the fuses or grounds be to blame.
