EGR valve? and IAB question
i have a 99 civic ex that has a 97 b18c swap in it. i purchased a chipped ecu from phearable.net and the car starts up fine but it throws a code 12 (EGR valve) is it throwing this code because its a chipped ecu or does a b18c have a EGR valve?
also it says in the install instructions to remove the vacuum source from the back of the intake manifold that runs to the iab box.
what line is this? im 99% sure i know what one it is but im havine a brain fart.
ive spent an hour searching for this stuff and havent found anything
any help is greatly appreciated!!

vtec engines have egr valves as far as i know.
not to sure about iab... intake air box if i had to take a shot in the dark

Re: EGR valve? and IAB question (mtber)
err im dumb its a code 22 not 12. sorry yesterday was a long day.
flashes 2 longs and 2 shorts, for some reason i had it in my head that the longs were 5 but there 10.
its a jdm swap from hmotorsonline
the car is a 99 ex 5speed so the vtec solenoid is hooked up.

IAB is the dual butterflies for the gsr manifold. Its the black box or canister that is mounted under the manifolds and tells the manifold when to open up for more power when it hits around 6,000rpm. while under normal driving conditions the iab is closed therefore the manifold is closed which gives the car more torque.

Re: EGR valve? and IAB question (skcivic4life)
I bought mines from hmotors too.. it should have came with a jdm p72 ecu with a starting number at the end of the code like p72 012. code 22 is the vtec pressure switch but jdm engines dont use it and so the jdm ecus doesnt detect it. check ur ecu to see if its jdm.

Re: EGR valve? and IAB question (raidacaipo)
i have a chipped obd1 ecu from phearable.net
it did come with the p72 ecu origionally and it never threw that code. i have to block off the vacuum port on the intake manifold that goes to the iab box. thats all.
if i had money id buy a skunk 2 intake but right now im actually just getting the car up and going and then most likely selling it.

why do you wanna block off the vacuum port on the intake manifold? if you wanna keep the manifold open, then just unplug the iab sensor plug.

this is directly off the sheet i got from phearable.net.
"gsr/h22 stock intake manifold users: our ecu's do not support intake air butterfly systems. simply remove the vacuum source from the back of the intake manifold that runs to the iab box and plug the vacuum port on the intake manifold"

Re: EGR valve? and IAB question (skcivic4life)
Holy damn this topic has some really, really bad info in it.

No they do NOT have EGR. No B series VTEC engines have EGR, period. Stop posting if you have no clue what you're talking about.
Code 22 is the VTEC oil pressure switch.
Why would you now be throwing this code?
The JDM p72 does not look for a VTEC pressure switch, and if your engine is a JDM GS-R/SiR-G then your VTEC solenoid doesn't even have the pressure switch on it.
If it's a USDM swap then either the VTEC pressure switch isn't wired up, or it's actually bad.
If it's a JDM B18C then you have two choices to fix that code:
1. Run a USDM VTEC solenoid that has the pressure switch, and wire the switch up
2. Piggy back the VTEC signal wire with a scotch lock and run an additional wire from the scotch lock to the pin location for the VTEC pressure switch

Re: EGR valve? and IAB question (B18C5-EH2)
i have a chipped ecu not a stock p72 ecu. and its a jdm b18c.
im going to try the bypass trick on the code 22.
all i need awnsered now is the vacuum port question

I know you have a chipped P28 - the USDM ECU looks for the VTEC pressure switch - I was merely telling you why you're now throwing the code, and were not with the JDM P72.

I can't be 100% without a vehicle to look at, but I think the green area you circled is a coolant line, not a vaccum line.
Simply unplug any vacuum lines from the IAB black canister to the manifold, and block off any now open ports on the manifold so that you don't have vacuum leaks.

Re: EGR valve? and IAB question (B18C5-EH2)
koo koo well im 99% sure i have the right one blocked off, my buddy did it when i wasnt there among some other hack things that im fixing.
so i cant just follow the line to the IAB.
but thanks for your help.
