EG b16a2 won't start
Hi!
Yesterday my EG b16a2 car stopped immediately and it doesn't start now. The ignition is OK, the battery is OK, fuel OK, it tries to start the engine but there is no spark..
This was already happened a year ago. That time I bought a used ingition distributor from a guy but it seems it lasted only one year (about 5k miles).
Now I am about to buy a new aftermarket ignition distributor because I do not want my car to stop again in the middle of nowhere. (yes it can happen with the new one also I understand).
Do you have any experience with aftermarket distributors? Like the one you can find on ebay: link
Any other suggestions?
Thanks.

Re: aftermarket ignition distributor?
Test what components is bad before you spend money on something new. Usually the coil or ICM (ignitor) is bad. If its a sensor inside the distributor (TDC) you will need to replace the whole unit. Do you have a check engine light on? I'd stick with OEM ignitors and coils if you can as aftermarket units are usually garbage.

primary coil: 1.5
secondary coil: 15
input signal to IDM:
blk/yel: 0
wht/blu: 0
IDM test with probe light: light flashes
Based on this what is problem?
The probe light flashes so the IDM is OK? The primary coil should fall between 0.6 and 0.8 and it's 1.5. Does this mean the coil is wrong? The input signal is no good. Or either I did something wrong but I have tried it many times based on the description on the link.
Thanks in advance.

Check whether dash fuse 9 is blown.
You failed to post the Ohm units for the coil resistance measurements. The primary reading should be Ohms while the secondary should be kilo-Ohms (kOhms). In addition, you need to subtract the internal resistance of your multimeter from the primary reading.

Re: aftermarket ignition distributor?
When I crank the engine then it starts a little. It does not get to idle, it stops.
Since it is able to start I think the coil should be OK.
Anyway I have replaced the coil and the ICM. The result is the same as before.
The primary is Ohm, the secondary is kOhm.
I will check the fuse and the internal resistance tomorrow. (Since I measure the same for both primary coil I think it is OK).

Just to verify -- the starter cranks/turns the engine, right?
Since replacing the coil and ICM, is there now bright white spark at all four spark plugs?
Are any CEL codes thrown?
Does the fuel pump prime?
Have you checked the mechanical timing?

Re: aftermarket ignition distributor?
Yes, the starter cranks the engine but it does not really start. I can hear that it tries to get to the idle rpm but it cranks a few and then stops. If I try it a few times then I hear a bang I think this can be the too much fuel (since the engine doesn't run to burn the fuel).
If I switch the key to position II (igniton) then I can hear the fuel pump. After that I hear the "click" and the CEL light goes down. Just as before this problem.
I do not have CEL, checked it.
What do you mean by mechanical timing. The timing belt? I have not checked that one yet. How should I proceed?
Btw sorry for my English I hope it is clear
Thank you for your help.

Have you checked for spark? Click spark link in my signature.
Mechanical timing -- here's the TDC1 cam and crank alignments you should see after turning the crankshaft pulley counterclockwise only:

Re: EG b16a2 won't start
Unfortunately I did not have time to check the timing and other things. I have only checked whether the timing belt has been broken away. Since it moves when the crankshaft moves I think it is not broken away.
I will check on the weekend all of the fuses again, spark, spark plugs, timing and hopefully with a spare dizzy.

Re: EG b16a2 won't start
Yes it could be your ignition switch, the same thing happened to me in my 95 ex coupe. If i would turn the key and crank it, it would start but as soon as i would let go of the key it would die. try starting the car and hold the key alittle bit back to where it stops the starter from turning but dont let it go back to the 3rd position and if it stays running its the ingition switch

Hopefully tomorrow I will be able to make some tests.
