i dont think there was ever an obd1 type r.. they came out in 96 right? most people will usually run a chipped p28 with itr specs, or some kind of management(s100, chrome, etc.) or if you'd like to hassle with obd2 components, you can get an obd1-obd2a jumper harness and run the p73

thank you.
looks like a p28 is the route i should go with.

P28 is a B16 ecu correct?

no, p28 is a 92-95 d16z6 ecu.. you could use an obd1 p30 with no problems.. you might not get full potential out of your itr swap if you run a b16, but it should run pretty smooth.. if you dont feel like chipping the p28 or getting some kind of a tune, just run the p30.. a p30 is a b16 ecu

Best option is a chipped ecu,,Get an obd1 ecu (most common is the "p28") and have it chipped with the type-r program..

true, ob1 ctr ecu could work too w/o rev limit

obd1 ctr ecu? dont think so again, your best option if you dont want to chip would be an obd1 p30

Yeah it will work but it may put you on the leaner side of things since you would lack .2 liters with a stock p30 ecu.

Your best option like said is to get a chipped obd1 ecu and run a stock ITR program at the very minimum.
You don't want to spend good money on an ITR swap then cut short with the ecu.

I would say for now to go obd1 to obd2 and run the P73 ecu.
But the 100.00 you spend on a conversion harness you could be over half way to a real chipped ecu.

http://www.xenocron.com
http://www.phearable.net
http://www.moates.com

These are all good places to check into chipped ecu's whether you need to buy one or have one and need it chipped.
There are more but those are the bigger players in the game.

yes you could.. like i said, if you arent wanting to chip now the p30 would be your best bet.. but i would rather do a chipped p28 like i stated.. you can chip a p28 for anything in the future

Thanks guys...
i definatley dont want to lean out so i guess i am in the market for a chipped ecu
only problem is: i dont have a ecu at all. That site phearable.net looks like they sell ecu's already chipped. Has anyone delt with them? or any other suggestions on places they have delt with before?

edit: im looking for something with a base map. dont really want to tune heavily

for a chipped ecu i would recommend blown90hatch.. do a search on his name and give him a pm.. he'll work with you and map you to what your car has done to it

phearable is an outstanding guy. So are the others. I have dealt with moates for all my crome pro toys. And have talked with xenocron as well.

Like said those are the top players and stand behind there products and service.

A tune is always recommended but you would be safest with a stock ITR basemap being the same as what the P73's would read.

If you don't have an ecu at all you might as well just buy a chipped one. And all 3 of those guys will send a chip with their ecu's for your setup if you buy one from them.

No sense buying two Ecu's.

so do they send a ecu ready to plug in or do i have to install the chip?

my first point - there is no such thing as an stock ITR map for OBD1. It doesn't exist. Any maps that are out there are either guesses or maps from cars that were tuned. And should be used as a basemap only.

second point - good places to get the ECU chipped and ITR maps to get you to a tuner are...

any body local (search http://forum.pgmfi.org to find someone)
