Ebrake problems!!

Ebrake problems!!
This is for my 96 civic. Just started noticing it yesterday. My drivers side rear brake seems to be not disengaging. took a look underneath the center console where the ebrake is.
This is what it looks like when the Ebrake is disengaged:

Any help would be appreciated!

Winnipeg is cold. Don't use your ebrake in the cold unless is absolutely necessary. Heat during normal driving melts any snow and ice on your brake drum to water, eventually that water will freeze. If you leave your parking brake on then it will freeze also.
But all you have to do is take the tire off and hit the ******* drum with a mallet or a piece of wood. If that doesn't work then take a heat gun (Torch if you are very carful) to it or try taking the drum off.
This is all based on the fact that I am guessing it's just frozen and nothing more.

is that what the ebrake cables should look like when its disengaged? i'm going to try and spray wd-40 and start hammering the **** out of the rear drum.

no, they should be even. also check and make sure its still connected to the drum/disc properly.

True, you could have snapped a cable, and easy way to check is to see if you can pull the cable by hand, or if a lot comes out. I didn't think of that.
As for the WD40, I don't know what you intend to spray. Just some moderate taps should help, hammering the **** out of it might be a little too much.

True, you could have snapped a cable, and easy way to check is to see if you can pull the cable by hand, or if a lot comes out. I didn't think of that.

well after hitting the drum a little bit, the ebrake cable seems to be almost even for both when disengaged.

This is good, now just try to activate it and disengage it right away, if the cable moves in and out you should be fine. Can you spin the drum freely? if yes then you are fine.
Let this be a lesson to using your parking brake in the winter when not needed. If this happenned to you in a parking lot on christmas eve that would have just been *****!
Also you may have a broken return spring or what not. Wouldn't hurt to take the drum off if you have the time and are feeling up to it.
