i apologize in advance for my lack of vocabulary on this matter. . ..

what is this dry sump oil system i keep hearing about. i read about them on race cars and some crazy street cars (like saleens s7) and i think i saw an add that moroso had a system for b series engines. im nowhere near considering this, i just wonder how it works, benefits, etc.
