Default dizzy question

ive searched and no one really answers this...

can a NON-VTEC dizzy work on a VTEC motor and viceverca...basically does it matter. i dont think it does since the dizzy has nothing to do with vtec timing. but correct me if im wrong

my friend had a dizzy from a SOHC ZC motor and tried to run it on his d16z6 and it ran like ****.

The correct dizzy for the motor is needed. We put on my d16z6 distributor on hid d16 and the car ran like a charm with mine on.

So it does make a difference on the way the motor will run

Using a distributor from a ZC motor on a d16z6 will make it run like ***

even ask my buddie martin (xgenturbo) on here...we put on my distributor from my Si and it worked properly on his d16

Comes in different models. Vtec as well as non-vtec.

Anyway, what about the obd1 dx distributor on the obd2 ex's. That's non-vtec to vtec. From the information I've seen it hasn't listed any difference in running. Some state they have issues with timing others state they do not.

Check again. A non vtec dizzy will not work on most Vtec motors. They have a different tooth distance and length. Most people grind the tabs to make them work . Just get a Vtec dizzy or non vtec dizzy and do it right. The Vtec dizzy's EX VX and Si have a different part number than non vtec dizzy's DX CX and LX. I even went down to Honda and asked them and they were kind enough to show me the difference and why it wouldn't work. I was suprised how helpful they were and how they were willing to actually show me.

quick ? for you, i bought a d16y8 swap with a suppose vtec dizzy, now the swap runs, but it runs shitty as hell. idles perfect but when you start to drive it, it feels very choppy and i can ONLY rev to 45 mph. i also, have a d16y7 dizzy and on the dizzy has the same type numbers. now did i get a dx dizzy or an ex dizzy.

I could have answered that for you the other day. I tried it when my the spare car's dx distributor took a crap. I tried to see if the ex/si would work, but the mounting locations on them prevent it. The dx looks a bit smaller than the ex as well.

well, ive heard otherwise. i think that it should work with no problems (using dx dizzy on an ex head) i mean, there's nothing in the dizzy that controls vtec. there has to be someone whose done it

the guts are the same i know because i have used guts out of a accord 92 motor in my b16 dizzy and the are the exact same thing, you can also use the guts out of a 92-95 civic they are also the same. The arms on the dizzy are different but the internals are the same.

The tabs are different. Anybody that is running a non vtec dizzy on a vtec engine has modified the tabs (grind, cutting, etc.). There is no way that they will just bolt on.

All D series are the same other than the D16Z6 ones which have the tabs further apart. All the guts are the same and if you swap the guts from a non vtec into a Z6 housing it will run perfect. Z6 dizzy's are the only queer ones.
