Re: differences between engines??? (wrivett)
search. use it.
B16a2 - cheap, 160hp
B16B- CTR motor, expensive, but 170hp...
personally b16a2 (from 99-00 civic SI) would be a better bang for your buck.. IMO

US B16s (B16A2 and B16A3) are around 160hp
JDM B16A for the EF's are 160hp and the B16A for the newer Civics are 170hp

yeah you can buy the B16a3, B16a2 with 160 Hp..
the JDM B16a comes with 170 hp for the obd1 and obd2 motor
the JDM B16a for 88-91 comes with 160 hp..
The B16b is the type R motor comes with 185 hp.. just costs a lot more for that extra bit though..

There is no B16C btw.
B16A
This engine has around 160-170hp. Different incarnations were available from 1988 until 2000 in several different markets, including the US, Japan, Europe and Australia.
There's the B16A, which includes several generations of Civics. If an engine is labeled as a true B16A (no number afterward), then it's probably from Japan. Remember that you will want to check for other ID numbers and sensors on the engine to ID the correct year before you end up with an OBD that you did not want.
One of the more common types you will run into is the B16A2 (160hp), which came in the US '99-'00 Civic Si (EM1) and some overseas hatches and sedans (VTi/SiR - EK4s).
Then there is the B16A3 (160hp), which came in the US '94-'97 del Sol VTEC.
There are several other variants which you are less likely to come into contact with, but the specs will be generally the same.
B16B
This is the 1997-2000 Civic Type R hatch (EK9) engine. That's the only car it came in. This means all of these engines are from Japan, though many CTRs were later imported to different parts of Europe (and less often it appears other markets).
The B16B comes with 185hp. There is a lot that is special about the B16B, but I won't go into all the little details. Many sites could probably tell you much, much more.
Expect to pay quite a bit more for a B16B than for the assorted B16A engines.
-------------------------------------------------
I'd really suggest you do research yourself. Look into prices, availability, OBD and what you want out of the car REALISTICALLY (!!!). It's better to wait a few years and get the right engine than to rush into it and end up with something that doesn't suit your needs.

Re: FV-QR (dapek)
if your stuck on b16. the easyest to swap would be a b16a3 out of a 92-95 del sol. (but a pain t find)
definatly look into something like a gsr (b18c1) definitely worth it. the torque make a big differacne

Re: differences between engines??? (tfarol)
being that the b16b and b16a2 are obd2 and the b16a3 is obd1 as well as his car, it would be easier. he wouldn't have to worry about injector, dizzy, ecu jumpers or chipping.
