Is it grinding when you shift from 3rd to 4th, or it grinds when you shift into 3rd and grinds also when you shift into 4th?

regardless of when it grinds the problem is the synchros in the tranny. Switching tranny fuild to oem or somthing else could make it shift better, but it won't fix the problem, the only fix is new synchros.

Not necessarily. Normally a grind going from one gear to the next result in synchronize going bad. But I've had issues with cars having a grind going into a particular gear and when we pulled out the transmission we discovered one of the teeth on the pressure plate from the clutch was broken. Another time we found a pressure plate bolt broken off and lodged itself into the clutch preventing a smooth shift into a gear; each time causing a grind because it was being forced in. So there could many things beyond our knowledge.

To the thread creator, what type of grind are you experiencing?

Hah, you make it sound like it's such an easy job to replace synchros.

The things you described would cause hard or a grinding shift but it also would be for every gear. When you have are having problems with certain gears and the same gears everytime, it is going to be in the tranny. to the op it will need new synchros but also maybe new gears as well depending on how long it has been doing this.
