Default Did an Oil change today....

...and I was wondering how long or how many miles can I go until the next since this time I used Castrol Synthetic Blend, instead of the normal GTX.

Can I go as long as synthetic?

I was using Synthetic (Mobil 1) on my 98 LX and changed it ever 5k. My dad has an 01 Accord LX and was changing every 5k, but stepped it back to 7k. The neighbor across the street who's sold cars all his life hardly EVER changes his oil. Just doesn't believe it needs to be

When I get my GSR motor I plan to change it every 3-5k depending on how hard I am driving between the changes.

It's more of a personal prefrence. If you drive hard ALL the time then 3-4k, if not 5-7k, IMO!

BTW > How long is normal to you for synthetic?

I beat the **** out of my motor every 2 to 3k. I probably change it more often than that. Basically whenever its nice out and I have time. Cheap insurance

yea i'd change it every 3-4k still b/c it says 5k under "normal" driving conditions, but like normal means no dust in the air and ur barely reving it past 3..whoever's neighbor said he doesnt feel that the oil needs to ever be changed needs to put down the crack pipe

i thought it was 7500 between changes for normal driving. thats what it says in owners manual, but i recommend every three thousand if you drive hard. how come on my dad's s430, you change it like once a year or something.

since we're on the subject, this guy bought a bmw 323 at my church. he said he doesn't need an oil change until like 15,000 miles. and each oil change is like a grand. is that tru? i dont know much bout bmw's cause they're out of my league right now.

That is true...well, sort of:
BMW's don't require oil changes as frequently as many other cars(I have no idea why) and that is a huge price to pay for service IMO. If you do it yourself, or take it to an unotherized dealer, you can void the warranty, which completly sucks

I always heard every 2k ... So I try to keep it close to that (mobil 1 syn.) but sometimes I get lazy and let it run up to 3 or 4k .. I guess its a good thing I shoot for 2k cuz I almost never make it and if i were pushing it that would be bad

I'm running Castrol GTX and have it changed religiously every 3,000 miles. With synthetic, that'd be overkill - it just doesn't get dirty as quickly; I'd probably have it done every 4,000-5,000 if I was running synthetic.

I used Mobil 1 on my VW and changed it every 2,500. It really isn't necessary to change it that early, but I just wanted to play it safe. Oil is relatively cheap compared to a new engine.

With a boosted motor I change mine every 2,500K with Mobil 1 synthetic. I also add a quart of slick 50 every fourth oil change.
