how often do you change your oil???
as the title says every how many miles and months do you change your oil, because i use royal purple and in their website says you can change it every 6,000 to 9,000. but i change it at 3k. is it better or just a waist of money?

Have some UOA's performed, and you'll be able to determine an interval that works well for you. However, if you're changing oil like Royal Purple every 3,000 miles, that's probably a bit excessive.

If your going to change your oil every 3k, then your better off using regular motor oil. Synthetic can last longer, I used to change it after 10k on my old VW but filters every 3k and top off if needed.

I'd change the oil depending how hard you drive your car. ie.>> lots of freeway miles, wait til like 7k, or hard driving = 5
I do mine every 3k but mine has 155 thousand miles on it, so I pamper my engine so it runs nicely 4 me.

l change mine engine oil and oil filter every 3k. Engine oil and filter is not expensive. (i'm not rich) i don't want to take any possible chance of screw up my motor for lack of engine oil change. all the time and my money into my engine and it dies because of lack of engine change.

I'm using regular motor oil right now and changing every 3K (still doing the 10K break-in with regular motor oil), but after that...Royal Purple every 3K.
Changing your oil is the cheapest and most cost effective thing that you can do to your car to keep it running
As for the whole "once a year" thing...that's pushing it for me

I learned about changing oil the hard way in my 240z, so now I change it every 1.5 months to 2 months on all my cars with the respective recommended oil weight. I don't really care for synthetic.

i run full synthetic mobil 5w-30 oil...i change it every 3-5 depending on if i'm lazy or not. I didn't know if you run synthetic you could acutally go over 5k with out changing it??? i mean i've brought my car to 5k with out changing only 4-5 times out of the 2 years i've owned my car.

Re: (bmoua)
jeeze 6-8k is alot dont ya think?? i change mine every 3k at LEAST. its cheap and cost alot less than a new motor. if your owners manual says 8k, then that means "under perfect driving conditions". cut that number in half!

Re: (INCNTRL4)
I haven't changed my oil ever since I dropped the SOHC in, and thats like 7 months so far with heavy foot and driving to school (50 miles each way) and work (10 or so miles each way) every day...
To make it even more interesting...my oil drain bolt can't be taken off lol. Had a leak so I "welded" it on... oil still looks ok lol.
B-series next.

Re: (INCNTRL4)
I change it at whatever the filter interval is. If it were possible to change the filter and leave the oil in w/out making a mess, I might change it less often. But I don't have a remote oil filter or anything. I determine my oil change interval based on an oil analysis that I have done every year or so.
The right brand of synthetic oil has been proven to be superior to conventional oil in every single category. But there are a lot of people that subscribe to myths and never bother to do the research, or they're just plain scared of new things. Mobil 1 is a good, cheap synthetic. Castrol is liquid dog ****.

You failed to specify that detail originally, but clearly track cars have different maintenance needs than normal street cars.
There is quite a bit of discussion regarding high-end synthetic oils, but with many Hondas easily reaching 200,000+ miles on standard conventional oil and remaining in sound mechanical condition, it should at least be obvious that expensive oil is not necessary to maintain a healthy engine. No one will argue that synthetics do not have benefits, but certainly we can agree that conventional oil and Honda's recommend change intervals is perfectly sufficient for the vast majority of drivers.

I don't see a reason to change your oil every 3k miles unless you live in extreme conditions or you drive it hard.
Honda manuals (for civics) state you should change your cars oil every 7,500. And I'm assuming thats not pure synthetic, in which case you could wait even longer.
I used to change my oil every 3k until I realized its a waste of my time and my money since I don't really drive it hard and I live in normal weather conditions.
