Default Oil Change (seldom drive)

Hello,

I have a 2002 Honda Accord v6, has about 45K miles. Don't drive it much. About 1-2K a year.

I was wondering how long should it go without changing oil... it has conventional oil... is once a year OK or can it go even longer?

I'm thinking about asking for synthetic this time when changing the oil.... is 5W-30 good, or stick with 20? Also with synthetic can it go like 2 years without an oil change?

Thanks in advance.

i assume its not a daily driven vehicle because ive never met anybody who drives that little amount of miles ... but if you really only drive 1000-2000 miles a year than just do it once a year ...

I would still have it changed, petroleum things tend to break down over time. Oil being one of them. Even synthetic I could see possible breakdown issues with time (look at Honda's recommendations for like a Timing belt, 7 years or 90k miles, as it still has wear even if you just drive it 10k miles).

Once every 3 months wouldn't kill you.

Surprisingly, your style of driviing is probably the hardest on the engine (and the car for that matter). Those short trips don't allow the engine to heat up enough (or long enough) to boil off any condensation or contaminates (soot and chemicals) which build up from no more than a car sitting. I've seen too many low-milage cars with oil resembling a milk shake from this condition!
Driving with this Cra*** in the crankcase is a quick trip to the boneyard.
I might extend the interval a bit, but you really should drive it more.
