Del sol running hot?
Ok so before I get flamed, yes I did search, a lot, so hear me out. I have a 1994 del sol SI and I just did a jdm b16a swap. I was driving over to a friends house one day and I looked down and noticed that my temp gauge was about 3/4 of the way to the top. By the time I got there it was pretty much all the way to the top so I shut the car off, added some coolant and let it sit for a while. Well I'm not sure what happened but it doesn't do it as bad anymore like it did then, especially driving around town. When in town just normal driving my temp gauge stays a little under halfway, but when cruising on the highway or interstate for more than 10 minutes or so my temp gauge will slowly start to creep up towards the top. If I let off of the gas and put the car in neutral and just coast it will continue to climb but as soon as I put it in gear again the temp gauge will drop pretty quickly and return to normal...and the cycle continues. I was driving for about an hour on the interstate and had to do this quite a few times to keep my temp gauge down. Any ideas on what this could be?

If you don't know for sure that the engine temperature is the problem, you should check your grounds. I had the EXACT same problem right after my swap.
Just when my friend was messing with the grounds in the engine bay, while the car was running (not smart, by the way, but this was a long time ago), he said as he moved from ground to ground, "The only thing else besides the thermostat being old, would be the engine gro-" and one of the grounds he just tugged on pivoted.
This caused the idle to all of a sudden drop for a second, and all the gauges fell to 0. This was because due to us ******* with the grounds while the car was on, we popped a fuse. Well, after replacing the fuse and tightening the ground, she's been running strong, and I still haven't needed to replace the thermostat.
Check your grounds. That may be your only problem. Just remember to turn the car off before hand.

A thermostat isn't part of the cluster.

Np. I figured you got the thermostat and temp gauge mixed up.
