Poll: Where is you temp gauge
I was talking with Ron about where on the temp gauge does your needle fall?
Mine on 96 ex falls right in the middle (right at the temp symbol), Ron says his is 1/3 from the bottom.
Now I am wondering what is the majority?

Re: Poll: Where is you temp gauge
mine sits right below the half way mark on the fuel guage. so a little below half. in a del sol.
sounds kinda like the speedos. they sit wherever they want as long as its +1-5 miles above what it's actually going.

LS in an EJ8 and it's just below the half way mark. It was the same when it was a single cam and the same in all 6 of my Integras.

Re: Poll: Where is you temp gauge
'98 Civic (with Y8 and with '00 B18C1) always sat about in the middle. I think it's close to dead on, but I'll have to check the next time I drive it.
'88 Prelude Si used to sit right above the middle, blew a heater hose, replaced that and last I remember it sat just about in the middle or maybe slightly above.
'88 CRX HF sits in the middle or slightly below.

Ok, I guys I checked the owners manual.............the answer is just about 1/2 way is right, except for towing or extrmeme hot conditions it will raise a little past 1/2.

Re: Poll: Where is you temp gauge
I'll post pictures of my 97 DX and 00 EX temp gauges when the engines are fully warmed up. It might help if others do the same. My gauge readings don't seem to show any variation in hot versus cool/cold outside temperatures, even in Houston.

Re: Poll: Where is you temp gauge
I think these gauges are just guidelines, you need a scan tool like you said to get the real temp anyway. As long as it 1/2 way up and under most people should be fine.

Re: Poll: Where is you temp gauge
I thought the OEM temp gauge wasn't very accurate and it just went from warm to hot to really hot. No actual temperature correlation. And like the tach, they could just be off from the factory and there's not really a way to reset them to be accurate.
Getting an aftermarket gauge would probably be the best idea if you're concerned with engine temperature.

Re: Poll: Where is you temp gauge
I did read the owner's manual section on the temp gauge (below). What you posted is accurate. However, the owner's manual statement is a bit ambiguous, perhaps intentionally as you say. I thought if members post pictures of their temp gauge when the engine is fully warmed up, then some potential subjectivity about what the gauge actually reads would be eliminated.
Already tried to bleed the system, was fine for 2 weeks now going up again.

Re: Poll: Where is you temp gauge
Maybe a bad thermostat or radiator or head gasket or fan switch?
Jump the fan switch connector to see whether this prevents overheating.

Bone stock 97 Civic DX:
The first picture shows the temp gauge with the key off and the second picture shows it with the engine running at full operating temp (midway point marked with red line for reference).
KEY OFF
Engine Running at Full Operating Temp
Next time, I'll post similar pictures for my 00 Civic EX.
