i have the del sol model that has the b16 in it. the car has 168k miles on it but is running horrible lately. i have intake header exhaust and all... but what happens is once the vtec kicks in the car gets loud but goes no where.... just stays as pretty much the same acceleration as it normally would.... i have been told that its most likely my vtec cylinoid going out.. anyone have any other ideas as to what would be wrong with it?i got the compression checked and it came out fine... the engine is fine so we're thinking its something electronically wrong... also i have a vafc so if anyone knows anything i could do with that to maybe help .. ur help would be appreciated.

so you're vtec isn't engaging? if not then check to see if you're getting good oil pressure. and i can't see how your vafc could be part of the problem, unless someone messed with the settings or didn't wire it up right.

If you can hear the difference in loudness, vtec is probably working.

Where your car has high mileage, check the routine maintenance things....oil change, plugs, wires, air/fuel filters....also the fuel injectors to see if they may be clogged. If you adjust the a/f ratio, and theyre dirty, that can bog it down.
