Torque Converter issues?
Car: 93 Civic Sedan
Tranny: AT
Miles: 108K
Problem: The car slips under heavy load when going approximately 40-50mph. It feels as if the torque converter is not transfering the power as its supposed to. No overheating issues. The car sat inside a garage for an entire month. Start the car this evening, the starter just spins. The engine does not try to fire in any order.
My question, does the starter's teeth engage onto the torque converter like it does on flywheels? What could cause the car not to start? The battery is NOT dead because all the electricals function properly. All I hear is the starter spinning and spinning.
TIA

Re: Torque Converter issues? (Migs)
the torque converter is connected to a flex plate similar to the flywheel in a manual car. so yes when you turn the starter it turns the torque housing with it.
If your hearing the starter just spinning then take off the starter and check to see if the flex plate turns inside. Also double check the starter to make sure the plunger is working

well, the flex plate is bolted directly to the flywheel as well, so if the starter is working, the engine will spin no matter what.
Have the starter tested

the slippage during driving could be a torque converter/tranny issue.
90% of auto tranny failures are from overheating. I'd double check fluid level, if not flush and replace

could be a bad stator, slipping clutch, stuck soleniod valve. ect ect.. you would have to do a pressure test first then go from there.
when else does this problem occur?
