Default Dash herness

I have searched and didn't get a for sure answer from someone. To my understanding you can hook a 99-00 dash harness up to a 96-98 but the speedometer and tachometer will not work. Why wouldn't I be able to move the wire, that goes from harness plug to speedometer, into the right pin on the plug and it work? I mean that's the reason the speedometer would't work right?

Give it shot and report back. Just compare/contrast the 96-98 and 99-00 harnesses first so you're not guessing and know exactly what to do.

I will try. My problem is my 96 civic is completely converted to 99-00 from dash to engine harness. The reason I was trying to get an answer so I wouldn't have to buy a 96-98 dash and harness and blower motor. The reason for me to go back to 96-98 is because my 99-00 harness doesn't have the o2 sensor plug, might be cut. I cant find any sign of it. That and well my car is odb2a so I want it all to be o2b2a except dash if possible. That being said, I do not have the 96-98 dash harness to compare/contrast. I'm not trying to put the 99-00 dash in my car. I'm trying to make it work with my 96-98 engine harness when I do put it in.That is why I was trying to get a pinout for 96-98 and 99-00 dash harness or someone to help me by telling me what wires to switch as far as the 99-00 dash harness in order to have it fully functioning with my 96-98 engine harness.

Just curious why this^ information wasn't included in the first post.

You can compare the 96-98 and 99-00 harnesses from wiring diagrams found in the 96-00 Civic manual.
