d16y8 manifold swap, question about spring/coil on tb?
i've read on here that the little rotor/spring thing on the tb that holds the throttle cable needs to be replaced with the one from the y8. Does it have to be from the y8 or could i use one from other throttle bodies like a b-series or maybe a z6???
does anyone know? also the spring thing unbolts from the butterfly right?

I'm sure you can use one from any side-mounted throttle body. You have to take the nut off at the end and pull on it.

i dont see why you cant use one off any D series TB if you feel you need to replace it
all D series TB's are 56mm except for 88-91 they were 55mm on the Si's
though im not sure about the new d17s i figure they are 56mm also, in any event, all of the TB's D and B should be similar in mechanical aspect, just size difference and Obd compatibility differences

it's not that i feel i need to replace it, all the write-ups on the y8 manifold swaps say you can't use the y7 rotor/spring because it will be upside down or something

Yeah, I already did this when I put the Y8 manifold on my Y7 and kept stock computer. Take the nut off (8mm I think) and pry the rotor off. Careful though, the spring is in tension and it will want to pop off on you! Easy to put back on too, just make sure it's in tension again when you reinstall it.

It's not the length of the cable, it's the position of the hole in the rotor, you won't be able to open the rotor to full throttle.

It's not that 96+ are all that crazy, it's just the Y7 anomalies that are a hassle sometimes. But thanks to the research & experience of others even those are conquered fairly easily nowadays.
