Default d16y8 governer?

i have a 96 civic ex, with a d16y8 (as the title suggests), on the highway when my car hits around 125-130mph it tops, the car is not close to redline (infact vtec still isnt engaged in fifth, only at like 5200 rpms), its not as if wind resistance is holding it back it sounds simply like a fuel cut of and the engine wont go any faster. i was wondering if there was a speed governer, i didnt think there was but maybe im wrong, ne ideas?

I could have sworn the governer is set at like 120mph, but i might be mistaken. But yes if your car isn't at redline in 5th and it doesn't go, it could be the governer. But 130mph is pretty fast in a stock civic i wouldn't go much faster unless you got some good suspension and tires.

Well I am pretty sure you have the OBDII ecu and i think you can find chips for that, that will eliminate the governer. Do some searches, but 130 is fast for a civic. Just be careful when you mess around with the safety features of your car.

The P2P is speed governed. Road & Track says the EJ8 is electronically limited to 112mph, and as with all their stats, they probably got this from Honda or by using their own equipment. Very doubtful you were traveling as fast as your speedo indicated; they tend to become very inaccurate at high speeds. The EM1's computer doesn't have a speed limiter, though.

yep its a speed limiter, or as i like to call it the "stop driving like a ******* moron" limiter because you arent on a racetrack, so there is absolutley no need to go that fast.

I think his response was for mrek, meaning don't remove the speed limiter or he could end up like that guy's friend who died while racing in his Si.
