Default d16a with d16y8 ecu.will it work properly?

i swapped civic 2000lx to d16a engine..mechanic who did the swap said it was a d16y8 engine..he didnt put the vtek wiring .so i hired a guy then he put a d16y8 ecu then everything messed up with check engine lights..ended changing o2 sensor..knock sensor.then changed intake manifold.we both thought it was a d16y8 .but it was a d16a..car works fine but im looking for a boost which is not there..it still runs like a no vtec engine..i wanna ask the honda experts here what shoul i do! thanks much!

Are you expecting it to be noticeably more powerful? The D16A isnt much different if at all then a Y8 from what I remember, the ECU should work fine, but its no screamer of an engine, I think they were rated at 130PS which is about 127hp IIRC

do u think i should tune the engine? like a dyno tune..and one more thing how about the transmission, the tranny before was from an engine without vtec.does it matter, cuz its shifting weird too like slipping and jerking

I wouldn't waste my time with a tune, I doubt its worth it. just make sure its running efficiently as intended. The trans shouldn't really matter. Slipping and jerking may be a whole other issue.

What are the ECU codes you are getting? It sounds like the transmission is automatic, so did this supposed mechanic use an automatic ECU?

Trying to make an automatic Civic faster is silly. You want a good running stock setup though, which means using the right parts.
