HELLO everyone ... my d16y8 p28 is thrown cel 12.. After searching i am very confused...the threads say that vtec motors do not have an egr? also there is alot of talk about cleaning the egr.. if i do have one, where is it located, also will cleaning it fix the problem?

I didnt think the d-series besides the z1 had a egr, but i could be wrong.

yeah some civics have an egr like i think civics from florida or carolina have an egr and its almost next to the distributor
but cali civic dont have them
an egr will make a car stumbel and turn off at low idel if its bad
but if you have a ecu from a diffrent state like thoes places then it might set a code since the ecu dont see the egr

my y5 has a egr system..cause it runs so lean honda needed something else to control NOx...plus it a diff vtec setup...but regardless....if you have it....it will me a round valve with a plug in connector....about 2 or so inches up towards the firewall from the dizzy....cleaning the plenum may""""" help it...but anyway gl

It's on the intake manifold. To my knowledge, only the late half of the sixth gen D16Y8's had EGR.

Ever think about getting a Haynes manual? Better write-ups / better pics / more reliable information than you'll find on the internet.

A y8 does'nt have an Exhaust gas recirculator, the HX civic does , there are 2 10mm bolts on top of the valve remove those and clean out wit a wire hanger, and reset your battery that may turn off the light, anyone have a Y8 head for sale?
