Default d16y8

So after all of the motors i found for my 97 Del Sol S, they sold. But is my best bet for a lower price a d16y8? That was for the Si model correct? All i will need is a wire for the vtec? Is this swap just as easy as putting in a d16y7?

its a plug and play deal yes, just if you want the power advantages of a v tec motor then your gonna need the v tec ECU the p28 if ur car is OBD1. and everything is plug n play. if your to lazy to wire the v tec then you can buy a EX/SI engine harness and swap them out and is as simple as that. the ecu will just plug into the harness.

p2p is obd2 which is the correct ecu for the d16y8, p28 is obd1 which is 92-95 d16z6

also 96-98 is obd2a and 99-00 is obd2b

yes, you will. and yes it is smog legal in that gay place cali lol. as long as your not transforming it from 0bd2 to 0bd1. your staying 0bd2 so i don't see why their would be a problem with that.

make sure you get a 96-97 del sol si ecu which is an obd2 p28 which I just now learned that actually there is an obd2 version, I don't see why you couldn't run a 96-98 p2p which is out of the civic ex w/ d16y8 and obd2a it would be much more easier to find than a del sol one. I don't understand what honda was thinking using different computers when they use the exact same engine and transmissions, I guess they wanted to use a different configuration to give the del sol a little more power or different power curve.
