Default D16Y7 Idle Control Valve

Sorry to register and just ask this question quickly, but I am hoping to buy a Honda Civic coupe 1997 which I looked at yesterday. But when the car is sitting there idling the RPM's fluctuate, they just seem to go up and down. The rest of the car is fine and the engine as only done 60K miles. I have read that it could be the idle control valve, but I dont want to spend the money on buying the car, then buying a new IACV, and the car still not to run fine. It dosent affect the car when its being driven either. Its just odd that it does it while still. Any help will be much appreciated and if it could be anything else but the IACV. Again sorry to just register and quickly ask a question, and if I buy this car I will be posting a lot more on here, or when I get a Civic finally Thanks again

Ross

hello, thanks for the quick reply, the thing is I dont own the car yet, and I dont want to buy the car, and realize its not a simple problems like these. I was just wondering if anyone could give a definite answer/fairly confident answer that it might of been something easy and cheap to fix (I phoned honda and they quoted me 300 pound to just take a look).

Could be a vacuum leak...to check it cover the throttle body while its running and if it still runs you got a leak somewhere

Problem could also be caused by air trapped in the cooling system. Check whether the coolant level is low and bleed the system.

By the way, cleaning as opposed to replacing the IACV often fixes an idle problem.
