At what point do you shift, what RPM's or speeds?

Ever since i got a JDM D15b ( SOHC *loud pop* VTEC), my gas mileage has gone down, but then i realized, that because i have VTEC now ( used to have a y7), its much more tempting to use it. I was all of a sudden clocking in 180-210 Miles to a tank, rather than my usual known 250-320. So i did an experiment, and spent a week driving it without using VTEC (that was one hard week), and i clocked in back at 270 miles to a tank ( about right). So it has allot to do with our driving habbits as well.

Also has to do with
-A good MAP sensor (A functioning one)
-A good condition 02 sensor (primary sensor) .
-State of your fuel filter
- State of your Air filter.

When I first got my B18B1, I usually needed to fill up at around 250 miles. I in fact ran out of gas at 305 miles. I had to hitch to a gas station.

Then I changed my driving habits completely. I generally shift between 3000 and 3500, and I don't speed excessively on the freeway (usually a max speed of 75, usually closer to 65). I now fill up at around 300 - 325 miles, and I'll have at least half a gallon left.

32 MPG on a stock B18B1

i shift at 3-3.5k. i dont speed in it. Its actually pissing me off because i got 35/45 mpg in my crx with a y7/y8.

when i bought this car i figured i would get just as much. Given i have to push it a little harder cause of the hills aroudn here and the lack of power.

I drive the car like an old lady.

i guess ill try air filter and fuel filter next.

should i buy some of those fuel system cleaners?

i had upwards of almost 400 miles in my crx i get about 220-250 in my civic
